Welcome to the Benjamin Banneker Website!

Our chapter is named after a great black man – Benjamin Banneker – who was born in Maryland on November 9, 1791 at a time that black people should not have been successful, let alone free.  However, Mr. Banneker defeated those odds and became a free astronomer, mathematician, surveyor, almanac author and farmer.

Despite the popular prejudices of his times, the man was quite unwilling to let his race or his age hinder in any way his thirst for intellectual development.  Banneker's life was and is very inspirational as there are many educational institutions named after him.

The Benjamin Banneker Chapter also has great determination.  We believe in unifying for a common cause.  That common cause is the empowering of black federal government employees and ensuring that we are well informed individuals, able to achieve anything.  Although we have come to know that BIG stands for Blacks In Government, we have also come to know it to stand for “Believing In God”.  Our chapter clearly understands that we can do nothing without God’s love, wisdom, and direction.

So during your visit with us, we hope that you are encouraged by what you see and read on our site and in the very near future, we will provide a bi annual newsletters; highlighting many of the great activities we have done throughout the year, as well as many of the great accomplishments of our members, both professionally and personally.

Again, thank you for visiting the Benjamin Banneker website.  If there is anything that our chapter can do to assist you, please contact us.

And as always, “Thank You For Thinking BIG!”

Sincerely,

E. Montrez Nicholson

President
